Right from the start of the tournament in Biratnagar till date memorable performances have been made by the players in the SunBi’s ’96 Trophy league matches of Group B in Biratnagar.
Suman Gatraj got a 2nd Innings century against Dhukurpani Youth Club Damak to set foundations for a superb win for BCCA in their 1st match. In a multiday game, it is difficult to get overshadowed after a performance as that of Gatraj but 13 years old Kritik Kamat did exactly that, he knitted the Web of spin with extra loop and pace that helped him fox the batters and with that he took 7 wickets in the 2nd Innings.
This breakthrough performance made him the top choice for player of the match with 9 crucial wickets in his bag. Sagar Katwal gave his 100% effort but as they say its a team game and an individual can just try to put his team back in the contest but the opponents were too good on the day. BCCA deservedly won the match by a mammoth 190 runs.
Similarly, second match was between Horizon Cricket Academy and Fulbari Cricket Club in Baijanathpur, Biratnagar. The game started with good buzz with players like Sonu Mandal and Bibek Mehta expected to hold the innings but Dipesh Kandel had some superb plan against them.
He got rid of 7 Fulbari batsmen and claimed match ball in the 1st innings itself. Similar was the story in the second innings with Dipesh and his tail up, he didn’t leave the match to get poised and took 5 wickets in the second innings with additional spice of 48 runs with the bat and got Man of the Match Award.
HCA won the match by 8 wickets. Chirag Sah in the first innings of HCA was a lone warrior with the bat who scored 62 crucial runs for his team.
With performances of players who aren’t still heard in the cricketing arena of Nepal, SunBi’s ’96 Trophy has made a mark in the grassroot development of cricket in Nepal.
With new format and adaptability batsmen and bowlers would definitely look forward to adapt themselves and apply more for the game they are passionate about.
